The Collaborative Team
Members of the Collaborative Team vary based on on the couple's needs. Collaborative lawyers are always a part of a Florida collaborative divorce team. Other professionals can be involved with the collaborative team, depending on the family's needs and
circumstances.
The clients jointly choose the
professionals they need. These professionals can include mental health professionals, child therapists and parenting specialists, financial and tax experts and divorce coaches. In my practice I've found that having a communication specialist is invaluable to the team.
Clients
have the option of starting their divorce with whichever professional
they feel most comfortable with, and adding other team members as necessary.
For example, a couple with no minor children
may start the collaborative divorce process by visiting a CPA
trained in the Collaborative Process, while a couple with young
children may begin the process with a child or mental health
specialist. The divorcing couple and their children benefit throughout
the process from the assistance and support from all of team of chosen
professionals.
You should be aware that, while
some lawyers may refer to themselves
as being collaborative in style, true Collaborative Divorce Law
requires commitment to the "no court" aspect of the process, as well as
special training. Be sure to ask about the attorney's training in the
collaborative process when looking for a collaborative attorney.
